Dear Editor,
On Friday 01st April 2016 around 18:15 hrs, I was in a barber shop in Enmore on the East Coast of Demerara when I noticed Police constable Aaron Joseph who is stationed at the Cove and John Police Station in a 4X4 Police pick up stopping motorists at random which is quite contrary to what the Commissioner of Police and the Traffic Chief mentioned. Mr. Editor, from my vantage point in the the barber shop that I was in, I counted no less than ten vehicles stopped by constable Joseph within a half hour time frame.
Mr Editor, I did not observe any of the vehicles stopped by Constable Joseph to have dark tints, unlighted tail lights , unlighted number plate lights etc which makes me curious as the real reason(s) behind Mr Joseph’s traffic stops unless he was on a mission the purpose of which I will not mention for legal reasons. It is very difficult to understand what reasonable suspicions constable Joseph could have advanced at 18:15 hrs in the evening when he stopped those motorists at random.
I hope that Commander Chapman can intervene as no one is preventing Constable Joseph from doing his work but it must be done in a very fair and transparent manner. Constable Joseph is stationed at Cove and John Police Station and on his way to Enmore he has to pass a few villages to get to Enmore and I’m very certain that he did not stop at any of those villages and made his traffic stops but he chooses Enmore.
What I was also told Mr Editor is that this is not the first such outing of unwarranted random stops by Constable Joseph in Enmore instead it is a routine feature. Enmore Police Station is supposed to be having a station management committee but it is so unfortunate that they cannot represent their fellow countrymen. Randy Persaud
