A driver attached to the Guyana Oil Company (GuyOil) was yesterday placed on $300,000 bail by Chief
Andrew Alder
Magistrate Ann McLennan, on a cause of death by dangerous driving charge.
Fifty-eight year-old Andrew Alder of West Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
It is alleged that on March 6 at Houston Access Road, Alder drove motorcar PMM 3981 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Denesh Bissoon.
Alder’s lawyer Paul Fung-A-Fat told the court that his client was employed at the company for eight years. He stated that Bissoon came across the road on a motorcycle from National Hardware, and slammed into his client’s vehicle, that was being driven at a slow pace.
He said, initially his client was placed on $40,000 station bail while Bissoon was still alive and receiving treatment at a hospital. However, after the man succumbed, Alder was arrested and charged.
The case was adjourned until April 13.
