While the King family of Suddie Village on the Essequibo Coast continues to be in mourning over the death
of a young relative who lost his life after he was struck down and killed on the Maria’s Lodge public road, on Monday night last, the police will first seek legal advice. However, one person remains in custody.
There are conflicting reports surrounding the death of 26-year-old Lionel King’s death. In one instance, people told the police that King was seen walking in the middle of the Maria’s Lodge public road moments before the accident.
The police who maintain that investigations into the recent road fatality are ongoing, no charges can be instituted against the driver in custody unless the Director of Public Prosecution advises.
In a release, police said Lionel King was walking on the Johanna Cecilia Public road on Monday night last when he was struck down by a motor car. The driver initially fled the scene but police investigation led to his capture.
King’s family was reluctant to speak to the media. One family member said that he learnt about the accident Monday night last. He then said that he had nothing further to say.
Several weeks ago, a Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast resident lost his life after he was involved in an accident on “Pitch Road”.
The young man collided into a cow and sustained severe injuries. (Yannason Duncan)
