Dear Editor,
At eighty five and diabetic I had hoped that, with a change of Government, the health post here at Saxacalli, where I live, would have been provided with a blood
sugar machine. To my disgust the situation has remained the same. Myself and other diabetics have to go either to Bartica or Parika, at great expense, where we have to pay for a test. Although our community is serviced by medical team from the West Demerara Hospital, we are told that the West Demerara Hospital has only one of
these machines which cost paltry eight thousand dollars on the retail market. The Minister of Health needs to do less talking and more action to rectify the neglect of the former Government of the health sector. While on the campaign trail we were promised the sun, moon and stars but now we are hearing only excuses. As soon as they
received power, they gave themselves a whopping raise in salaries, money which could have provided a blood sugar testing machine for every health post and health centre in the entire country.
