Government made the Arch decision not Banks DIH
Dear Editor,
Banks DIH Limited wishes to respond to a letter written by Mr. Lester Sealey and published in the Kaieteur News on March 18th, 2016 captioned “Why is Banks DIH putting the Independence Arch elsewhere”.
Please note that Banks DIH Limited has agreed to support the construction of the Arch in observance of Guyana’s 50th Anniversary of Independence in keeping with the Company’s Social Responsibility programme. The decision to locate the Arch on the East Bank of Demerara was made by Central Government. We were advised that the decision to move the location of the Arch from Ruimveldt, was based on the fact that the boundaries of the Capital City were extended and Agricola is now considered as the “Gateway” to the City of Georgetown. All for your information.
