As part of fulfilling its corporate social responsibility SOL Guyana Inc., conducted yet another maintenance exercise at the manatee pond at the Zoological Park and Botanical Gardens in Georgetown.

The team from Sol Guyana Inc interacts with tourists during the maintenance exercise at the Manatee Pond at the Botanical Gardens yesterday.
A team of managers and employees from the Regional Petroleum Company, which has a local office at Lot BB Agricola, East Bank Demerara, visited the Zoological Gardens between 9:00 am and 12:00 hours yesterday. They cleaned and painted the manatee pond and its surroundings areas.
Managing Director of Sol Guyana Inc. Orlando Boxhill said that the project is part of the Company’s commitment to education and environmental conservation. He noted that from the inception of bringing energy based products and services to Guyana, SOL has embarked on a number of social projects.
In addition to maintaining the manatee pond at the Zoological Gardens, the company has also contributed to a number of charities in its efforts to reach out to the wider public. Among the beneficiaries are the Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre and a number of wildlife conservation projects specifically Guyana Marine Turtle Conservation Society (GMTCS).
According to Boxhill, Sol Guyana has been involved in environmental conservation and educational initiatives for more than a decade. He said that SOL’s involvement in the conservation project has been a twofold blessing for the organisation and the Guyanese public.
“By cleaning and maintaining the (manatee) pond we are educating and bringing the attention of the public to these gentle giants,” Boxhill added.
The Managing Director disclosed that a significant share of the company’s annual budget is earmarked for these projects.
According to him, Sol will continue to provide support to Guyana Marine Turtle Conservation Society and the Manatee Holding Pond at the Botanical Gardens since it provides a vital link between Sol and Guyanese public.
