Correction: Eastman was not a killer
In yesterday’s headline story, ‘17 dead after inmates set prison block on fire’ we had incorrectly stated that former Guyana Defence Force Lance Corporal, Aaron Eastman, was on remand for murder.
We wrote that he was charged with the murder of security guard Wilfred Stewart at Sterling Products Limited on December 8, 2014, and the execution-style killing of Guyana Geology and Mines Commission employee, Trevor Abrams, on February 27, 2015″.
In fact, Aaron Eastman was actually charged with unlawful possession of arms and ammunition, following an arrest with an unlicensed sawn-off pump action shotgun with matching rounds and an unlicensed .32 revolver with matching rounds, on December 5, last, at Robb Street.
We apologise unreservedly for the error.
