Everest Cricket Club’s (ECC) newest life member Rajesh Singh has been elected to the club’s top post for the year 2016-17 following its Annual General Meeting which was held on Friday night at the club’s pavilion.
Johnny Azeez will serve as the senior Vice-President, Kalyan Tiwari Junior Vice President, Caramchand Rambarran Secretary, Reuel Sumair Assistant Secretary, Manichan Rai Treasurer, Anthony Rampersaud Assistant Treasurer and Shaheed Mohamed club captain. John Ramsingh is the Public Relations Officer, while the committee members are Bhesham Persaud, Mitchell Ceasar, Dwayne Adams and Prakash Balgobin. Guyana Coast Guard Commander Orin Porter performed the duties as the returning officer.
Outgoing President Mr. Stephen Lewis thanked the 2014/15 executives and members for their support in what was described as a challenging year for the club. He said that many projects including the “Century Kitchen” which is bearing the fruits of the club’s investment was established. Lewis congratulated the new executives and urged them to work together for the development of the club.
Rajesh Singh, who previously served as President for the periods 2008-2010 and 2012/13 was earlier in the evening announced as the club’s newest life member. Speaking after the elections, Singh expressed gratitude to Lewis and the previous executive as well as other members.
The new President urged young cricketers to remain committed and focus on their education. He stated that the installation of lights at the venue is one of the projects on the cards and charged the new members to support same.
The year 2015 was deemed as a successful one for the club and the following players were rewarded for their sterling performances.
Batsman of the Year, 1st Division – Tagenarine Chanderpaul; bowler of the Year, 1st Division – Troy Gonsalves; batsman of the Year, 2nd Division – Khemraj Ramdeen; bowler of the Year, 2nd Division – Javeed Rasheed; Youth cricketer of the year – Akshaya Persaud; junior batsman of the year, Yeudistir Persaud, junior bowler of the year, Zechariah Mootoo; batsman of the Year, Masters – Sahadeo Hardaiow; bowler of the Year, Masters – Johnny Azeez; Cricketer of the year Rajendra Chandrika. For his elevation on becoming a West Indies test player, Rajendra Chandrika was announced as a life member.
