Dear Editor,
It is recorded in history, that Mr. Gerald Ford, the 38th. President of the United States has been the only U.S. President to date who never won a Presidential election. Likewise, in the Co-Operative Republic of Guyana it is no doubt noted and recorded that Mr.Samuel Hinds, the 3rd. EXECUTIVE President, never headed a list as a Presidential Candidate and won an election. The fact is, Mr. Hinds never contested nor won an election in Guyana.
Mr. Gerald Ford contested the Presidential Elections as the Republican Candidate in 1976 but was defeated by the Democratic Candidate, Mr. Jimmy Carter. Gerald Ford was appointed as Vice President to President Richard Nixon, following the resignation of Spiro Agnew in October 1973. He was later appointed as President after Richard Nixon, on August 9th 1974, resigned the Presidency in disgrace as a result of the Watergate scandal. Gerald Ford therefore, claimed the distinction as the first and to date the only person to have served as President and Vice President of the United States without being elected to either office.
