Vivian Albert turned in a commendable performance to guide Zone C to 46-run victory over Zone B when the final of the Enterprise Busta Sports Club T20 competition was contested on Sunday at the East Coast
Demerara venue.
Skipper Albert struck an unbeaten 62 to lead Zone C to a respectable 144-5, batting first. He then returned with the ball to capture 2-24 to help bowl out Zone B for 98 in 18.2 overs. Pacer Rameez Khan uprooted the stumps of Mankad Balkishun (00) while Dave Persaud sent back Ravindra Beepat (06) and Pradesh Balkishun (07) to reduce Zone C to 26-3.
However, Albert anchored the innings with level-headed batting, sharing in useful partnerships of 26 for the fourth-wicket with Leon Prescott (14) and 47 for the fifth wicket with Lakeram Dindyal (16).
Davenanand Persaud provided some support down the order scoring a run-a-ball 15 not out. Albert slammed three fours and four sixes as Persaud finished with 2-20 while there was one each for Khan and Bishram Samaroo.
Persaud and B. Khemraj added 19 for the opening stand before Amar Kishore removed Persaud for eight while Khemraj was taken off Lakeram Dindyal for 12 to leave Zone B at 34-2. Rohan Mangal provided some resistance, hitting three fours in scoring 29, but when he was removed by Albert, the rest of the batting crumbled against some tidy bowling.
No other batsman managed to reach double figures; Pradesh Balkishun was the pick of the bowlers with 3-16 while Kishore and Dave Persaud claimed two each. Albert was named man-of-the-match and best batsman while Balkishun took the best bowler prize.
Earlier, Zone C and D Combined overcame Zone A and B in a female 10-over affair. Zone C and D batted first and posted 105-5. Bibi Shaneeza Ulla got 31 and Cynthia Rampersaud 27. Amanda Persaud took 2-17.
Zone C and D responded with 106-1 in seven overs. Fanta Lakeram struck 44, Vidya Persaud 28 not out and Shivanie Singh 17. (Zaheer Mohamed)
