Dear Editor,
Guyana Water Incorporated wishes to respond to the letter titled ‘An island in Guyana without water’, dated Monday, February 22, 2016. GWI wishes to apologize to residents of Wakenaam, including customers of Good Success, Zeelandia Estate, Sans Souci and surrounding communities, who are experiencing reduced levels of service.
This has resulted from difficulties at the ‘Free and Easy’ and Nooit Gedacht well stations which serve these communities. Both well stations have existed for over 40 years. Guyana Water Inc. has commenced preparations to drill a new well at Nooit Gedacht to provide service to the communities currently affected by the disruption. Works on the new well station, which costs in excess of G$12 Million, are expected to commence in March 2016. Completion of the civil works is scheduled for May 2016. During this period, GWI will be delivering water via tankers to the affected communities.
In addition, a new well will be drilled at Ridge, Wakenaam which is also expected to be completed by May, 2016. For updates, customers can contact GWI’s Anna Regina office on 771-4162, e-mail customercallcentre@gwi.gy or pro@gwi.gy Updates will be posted on the GWI website, www.gwiguyana.com and Facebook page, available at www.facebook.com/everydropcountsgy Timothy Austin Public Relations Officer
