Yesterday Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan sitting in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts placed Ryan Downer on $100,000 bail after he was accused of assaulting his friend with a stick over a cigarette.
Downer, 22, an engineer, who resides at 146 Sixth Street, Alberttown, denied that on January 18, last, at Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Devine Massiah.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Wineth Hubbard, said that the state had no objections to the defendant being granted bail.
She told to the court that the victim and the defendant are close friends and on the day in question, at around 07:30hrs both men were involved in a heated argument over a cigarette. She said that Downer stepped away and returned with a stick and dealt the complainant several lashes to the head causing him to receive injuries.
Downer was ordered to return to court on February 15, for fixtures.
