Several local cricket umpires were given lecturers on ways to improve their trade at a workshop held yesterday at Mayor and City Council Union Building, Woolford Avenue.
Shannon Crawford makes a point during the clinic.
The clinic was facilitated by senior umpire Shannon Crawford. Among the topics discussed were umpires preparation, match management, technique, teamwork and on- field communication. Umpires were also asked to give a talk on a given topic after being involved in group discussion and were shown videos on decision making.
In an invited comment Crawford who is also the president of the Georgetown and Demerara Cricket Umpires and Scorers Associations said it is an ongoing process and he is delighted to share with local umpires his knowledge and experience gained at the regional level. He added that this will help the umpires to progress so that they can better serve the game.
Umpire Totoram Ramnarine welcomed the initiative adding that this will be beneficial not only to umpires but players as well and expressed gratitude to Crawford.
