Kapildeo Armogan, called “Red Eye” 35 of Bath, West Coast Berbice was on Wednesday remanded to jail by Magistrate Rhondell Weever when he appeared before her in the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court on a charge of robbery under arms.
Armogan is accused of robbing 83-year-old Ernest Mangal on January 6, last.
The case for the prosecution, as presented by Corporal Rochelle Mars, is that around 04:45 hrs on the day in question, Mangal who lives alone at his Woodley Park residence was in his kitchen cooking. The accused, who is known to Mangal, subsequently gained entry to the premises, placed a knife to the elderly man’s throat, and demanded that he hand over his money.
Armogan subsequently relieved the man of $18,000 which he had in his shirt pocket. The accused then proceeded to ransack the house and took away four pounds of mutton valued $7,000 which belonged to Mangal’s son, Vishnu, and was in his fridge.
Armogan then made good his escape.
The matter was reported and the suspect was arrested and charged.
He will have to return to court on January 26.
