Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry is set to hear the case against Leon Duncan for the murder of businessman,

Intaz Roopnarine. Duncan, called ‘Whistle’, was indicted for murder in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
The incident is said to have taken place on January 24, 2013, at Cool Square Hotel in Marigold Street, West Ruimveldt.
Roopnarine called ‘Bobby’, of 169 Mandela Avenue, was reportedly robbed and shot in the head during the ordeal. The victim was reportedly wearing several pieces of expensive jewellery at the time. He ran to the back of the hotel, where he collapsed and died near to a septic tank after being shot. Roopnarine was preparing to leave the hotel moments before the shooting.
The assailant reportedly escaped with a gold and diamond chain worth $500,000, one gold band worth $700,000 and other jewellery, all priced at a total of $2,200,000.
Duncan, of Lot 1977 Willemstaad Road, Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was subsequently arrested and charged for the murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charge before the Judge and a 12- member mixed jury which was empanelled at the Georgetown High Court, on Tuesday.
The case is being presented by State Attorneys Stacey Goodings, Tuanna Hardy and Orinthia Schmidt. Attorney at law Mark Waldron will be representing the accused in the trial, which is scheduled to commence today.
