Harassed because of my letter in KN
Dear Editor,
In my letter published in your newspaper on the 22nd. December 2015, I voiced my concern about the fact that the police were working closely with the PPP candidates in Leguan to criminalise and victimise the Coalition candidates for the upcoming local government election.
Since then, I have been followed and harassed on a daily basis by one particular member of the Leguan Police Force, (officer named). I have suffered verbal abuse, escalating to the point whereby on the 6th. January 2016, this officer took out his gun and pointed it at close range to me.
On the 8th. January 2016, I travelled to Georgetown to make a complaint to the Police Complaint Authority concerning his threatening behaviour towards me.
Upon my arrival back to Leguan, I was informed by local residents that the police were looking for me, however, I have not been approached by them thus far.
This made me somewhat nervous because of the experience I faced at the hands of this officer so I decided to contact Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan to inform him of the imminent threat facing me. Not surprisingly to me, his response was very questionable, being that he is responsible for public security.
I am a member of the AFC party and took our promise to root out corruption very serious. In fact, this is why I decided to join AFC. I am very proud to say that I have fully informed all the relevant authorities when things have been going wrong in order to get rid of the corruption that we promised.
Now, I am being persecuted for this, even by the AFC party. This, I find very irresponsible on the part of AFC because, we as a coalition government should be working together to root the legacy of corruption left behind by the PPP, just like we promised the people of Guyana, but it seems to me like AFC are not complying with this partnership, as this is the second time I am being persecuted by them for speaking the truth about things that are going wrong and naming individuals that are corrupted including those within the AFC party.
I urge our President, Mr. David Granger that it would be within the best interest of the citizens of Guyana that he finds a competent replacement for Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan.
The role of the Minister responsible for public security is one of greatest importance and in the least it should be handed to an individual who can show that he or she is evidently able to fulfill such a task.
President Granger, we owe it to the people of Guyana to deliver on our promise to root out corruption on all levels.
