A teenager was on Wednesday remanded to the juvenile holding centre after he was charged with the murder of Kevon George.
George was stabbed to death last Sunday at Bare Roots, Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara.
The 16-year-old appeared before Magistrate Alicia George at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge. There is no relationship between the Magistrate and the victim.
The court hearing was held in-camera.
According to reports, George, 28, a construction worker was dealt a fatal stab to his neck by the teenager, whom he had accused of burglarizing his home. It was reported that on the day in question, George approached his attacker and a confrontation ensured.
The now dead man was left lying on a parapet for more than an hour before his lifeless body was removed by police. According to a police source, the murder suspect alleged that he was acting in self-defence.
He claimed that he was attacked by George, who struck him to the head with a stone and stabbed him to the neck. The accused will make his next court appearance on January 28, in the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
