Matarkai SC 5-a-side football receives corporate backing
The Matarkai Sports Committee of Region one 5-a-side football competition which is expected to commence on December 26 has continued to gain the support of the corporate community. Greg Trucking Service of Matthew’s Ride, Ministry of Social Protection and Rawl Boyer have joined C and S Variety Store of Port Kaituma and Mark and Unita Doliveira as the sponsors so far.
President of the committee Sherlon Rodrigues told Kaieteur Sport that Social awareness will be highlighted on the day of the finals through the distribution of pamphlets. He informed that Port Kaituma will play Young Guns in an exhibition game before the grand finale on January 1.
Preliminary matches will also be held on December 27 while Registration closes on December 18 and can be done through PRO Orison Sealey who can be contacted on 673-1449; interested sponsors can contact Joyclene Abrams on 694-2035.
The winning team will take home a trophy and $100,000, runner up a trophy and $50,000 and third place a trophy and $30,000. The top goal scorer and MVP in the final will also be rewarded. Action gets underway at 18:00 hrs.
