An East Coast Demerara businessman and another man were remanded yesterday following the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and several rounds of ammunition at Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara.
A release stated that police found an unlicensed 9mm pistol along with 380 rounds of .380 calibre ammunition and 14 rounds of .32 calibre ammunition at a house at Section ‘B’, Non Pareil.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum recently disclosed that 98 illegal firearms had been seized for the year.
He said that the majority of illegal firearms were coming from Brazil. Others were coming from the USA and from Europe.
The recent firearm amnesty netted 186 weapons, including 153 shotguns and an AK 47 assault rifle, 13 pistols, 10 air rifles and nine revolvers.
