The Guyana Police Force in collaboration with the Cops and Faith Community Network yesterday established a foundation that will forever benefit the families of ranks who would have died in the line of duty.
As part of the launch, representatives of several private companies and businesses, including Roraima Group of Companies and Industrial Safety Supplies, made donations of over $3,700,000.
In attendance were members of the Force’s Executive Leadership Team, Members of the Faith Based Community, other police ranks and members of various media houses.
Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud, DSM, officiated at the launch of the Guyana Police Force Fallen Heroes Foundation Inc. before a packed auditorium at the Police Officers Training Centre.
The Foundation, a brainchild of the Commissioner and the first of its kind in the Caribbean, has received overwhelming support from a wide cross section of society and the Government of Guyana.
Speaking of the ideas behind the initiative, Commissioner Persaud reflected on the last four ranks slain in the line of duty; Ellias, Cleto, Pantlitz and Dawson and their dependants who were left without any hope of financial support.
His speech which was supported by a PowerPoint presentation on the officers evoked empathy by all present.
President of the Foundation, Reverend Raphael Massiah, said that he and the other members of the Foundation, who were drawn from the Force’s Cops and Faith Network together with a Business Executive, are proud to be part of the body that will be responsible for bringing about positive changes in the lives of the families of slain police ranks.
Minister of Social Protection, Volda Lawrence pledged her Ministry’s support, since she understands the pain at the loss of a loved one. She also made a donation to the foundation personally and another on behalf of the Ministry.
The Guyana Police Force Subject Minister, Khemraj Ramjattan, expressed his appreciation for the foundation and also pledged his Ministry’s support and made a personal pledge to the foundation.
