Dear Editor,
I have been closely following the unfolding of evidences given by several officers, present and past, of the Public Service and other citizens at the Public Service Commission of Inquiry.
Of importance is the purpose of the hearings that states inter alia “To examine and report on the salaries, conditions of service, training and other matters pertaining to the improvement and efficiency of the performance of the Public Service”. Sitting on this Commission is Ms. Sandra Jones, who together with Mr. Earl John, constitutes the main partners in the Human Resources Consultancy – Sandra Jones Associates.
Sandra Jones Associates has long been involved in providing HR consultancy services to the government of Guyana, with particular works on compensation. It therefore means that part of the current problems with the compensation aspect of the Public Service could be located in the work of this consultancy.
There may be an awkward situation with Ms. Sandra Jones being a member of this commission tasked with the responsibilities, among others, to “examine and report on the salaries” of the Public Service. There is no doubt that her recommendations will be self-serving to her consultancy.
Editor, you may have recognized that quite often, Mr. Earl John, who is prolific letter writer to the local papers has been quoting data on salaries of the Public Service. Were the data were obtained from Sandra Jones Associates through the consultancies with the government on compensation?
I am just asking not commenting. I may be wrong, but shouldn’t this be open for discussion when data that are being privy to one through a formal engagement is being openly cited? This gentleman is a member of GuySuCo Board of Directors. I repeat; just asking
I patiently await like hundreds of others, on the reports of the Public Service and GuySuCo Commission of Inquires, not only on what the future beckons for the mass of workers of this country, but what contracts will be awarded to Sandra Jones Associates for consultancies in HR in both GuySuCo and the Public Service.
Rawle Sen
