Devil’s XI and Speed XI recorded victories when the Georgetown Cricket Club hosted two softball matches on Saturday night.
Devils’ XI overcame Speed XI by 18 runs in their encounter. Batting first, Devil’s XI posted 147 all out off their allotted 15 overs. Garvin Devanand led with 31 while Sahadeo Hardaiow made 27 and Parmanand Sanicharan 21. Speed XI were bowled out for 129 in 14.4 overs in reply. Arjune Persaud scored 30, Robert Mohan 22 and Orin Porter 17. Man of the match Lakhan Mohamed grabbed 4-22 including a hat-trick.
In the second encounter Speed XI rebounded to beat the Guyana Media XI by eight wickets. The Media XI took first strike and were sent packing for 71 in 14 overs. Zaheer Mohamed struck 17, Rene Stoby 16 and Diquain Murray 11. Porter claimed 3-15 while Arjune Persaud had 2-8, Riyas Khan 2-11 and Doodie Ramdeen 1-10. Speed XI replied with 73-2 in nine overs. Dereck Ramotar cracked 17 not out, Kawal Dubay 16 and skipper Kamal Seebarran 14. Avenash Ramzan took 1-14.
