A Vreed-en-Hoop gold miner was yesterday released on $180,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple larceny in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Perry Boodhoo, 36, of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara, is accused of stealing a quantity of clothing from Margo Gordon’s stall. He allegedly carted off the items on October 2, at Water Front, Port Kaituma, North West District –the items are valued at $303,000.
Boodhoo denied the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
This matter was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court for November 3.
Police Corporal, Deniro Jones, presented the prosecution’s case and did not relate any facts. Jones had no objections to the defendant being granted bail, but requested that it be in a substantial amount.
The prosecutor informed the court that the items were not recovered and that the defendant has no antecedents.
