Dear Editor,
Permit me to respond to an article of Freddie Kissoon on October 2nd, 2015 (KNews) where he cries foul and distinguishes himself as a victim.
If indeed he is, then it is because of his own making and likeness. I made your readers aware that besides being a columnist in your newspaper, he is also a bully and an attention seeker of the highest order and he did not like that fact.
His response was to react with personal criticism and as such, I seek to return the favour.
Freddie Kissoon does not have a mirror to look at himself and if he did, then he would ask the key question, “Why am I grabbing the headlines for the wrong reasons?”
Editor, if I was to list all the other writers and columnists that see Freddie for what he is, a school-boy attention seeker, he would sit back and take stock of his abrasive and often patchy understanding of real life issues.
Freddie should heed my advice and call Dr Wladmir Klitschko who is a fighter, I am not a fighter nor a counter-puncher of any stature. Instead, I respect, participate and appreciate good debates on matters of concern.
I am not a phantom, I am real and often aim for objective, rational and sensible discourse or approach of other people’s perspective. Of course, I am not perfect. Maybe Freddie is and I will tell you why he is not, in a moment.
In my letter dated 30th September I wrote, “I wouldn’t be surprised if he is as miserable as sin apart from carefully constructed moments of charm when in the act of deceiving.”
Well, I got him exactly where I need him, Freddie bit the bait and set out to deceive the public, once again, by pretending to be the intellect of all intellects. He perceives himself to be a constructive critique guru of distinction.
Not this time Freddie, you got it so wrong and I am about to expose you. He set out his stall to make people believe that once you read Kaieteur you definitely or automatically read his column. What a presumption?
Every person who reads the Kaieteur Newspaper on a daily basis, and I do, cannot miss Freddie Kissoon’s headlines and photograph, unless blind.
This does not make the person a reader of his rants and better still, Freddie should not conclude that everyone does. As a reminder, Freddie would appreciate that there are various types of ‘reading’. Deep reading and superficial reading are just two of those types.
To save Freddie the hassle of research, Birkerts (1994) coined, the active process of thoughtful and deliberate reading carried out to enhance one’s comprehension and enjoyment of a text as deep reading.
On the contrary, shallow reading was concerned with and understanding only the easily apparent and obvious, not profound.
You don’t need to be a genius or a person who is intellectually minded to work out that everyone who reads the Kaieteur also reads Freddie Kissoon’s column.
It is true, I hope he feels good but equally one has to ask, “To what extent readers of Kaieteur Newspaper engage with his rants, complaints and utter nonsense?”
Don’t be fooled Freddie and stop deceiving the public to believe that because they cannot miss your daily headlines they are presumed deep readers of your column, far from the truth.
So here is my confession, I am agreeing with you, I Brendon Mounter do read, in the main, most of Freddie Kissoon’s writings in the Kaieteur Newspaper, ‘on the surface’.
Does that make me dishonest? You be the judge Freddie. Does everyone sees the headlines? Oh yes. Do they read your daily column? Don’t be fooled. Do the Maths Freddie, something you as a social commentator may find difficult.
Brendon Mounter
