The organisers of the recently concluded Forbes Burnham Memorial softball competition yesterday presented the first prize to Speed Boat XI at a simple ceremony held at Georgetown Softball Cricket league Inc (GSCL Inc) office in Seaforth Street.
Assistant organising secretary of the GSCL Inc Russel Jadbeer congratulated the victorious Speed Boat team and said the tournament was a successful one. The competition was played in several Regions; Speed Boat defeated Regal in the final by seven wickets at the Ministry of Education ground. Regal managed 98 batting first with Safraz Esau scoring 33. Wazir Hussain claimed 3-16 and Greg Singh 2-9 for Speed Boat who responded with 104-3. Singh scored 48 and Hussain 40.
The competition was played to commemorate the 30th death anniversary of the late President of Guyana, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham and was organised the People’s National Congress Reform in collaboration with the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc.
