Mahdia police have detained two men as they continue their probe into the murder of Brazilian national, Josi Mar Perrieria Silva, 51, of Boa Vista, Brazil, whose body was found in a camp at Mowasi Backdam on Sunday morning.
The two men arrested are said to be former employees of Silva’s mining operation.
According to reports reaching this newspaper, Silva left his camp to check on the gold mat on his dredge which is located some distance away.
It is believed that his attackers ambushed and killed him before disappearing with the mat.
Investigators said that the Brazilian’s body had a single wound in the forehead. It appears to be a gunshot wound.
Kaieteur News understands that police, acting on information that three men from Silva’s camp had broken crew, launched a search for them and subsequently arrested the two.
They are being questioned while the police await the results of a Post Mortem Examination.
