The police are investigating the death of a Leopold Street, Georgetown man, who was beaten and stabbed repeatedly by a group of men early yesterday.
The incident occurred some time around 04:00 hrs, yesterday, at Lot 67-68 Leopold Street.
The dead man has been identified as Deon Macey.
His lifeless body was discovered in his shack sometime around 06:30 hrs by persons who live in the same yard with him.
Kaieteur News was told the now dead man was found in a sitting position bleeding profusely.
According to a woman, who resides in the same yard with the now dead man, she was sleeping when she heard Macey screaming for help.
“Like he went out and these people chased him because he run in the yard and he was shouting, ‘Please don’t kill me, please don’t kill me’. And I heard when some people run past by me and run he in his house and one of them tell another one not to kill him,” the woman recounted.
She added that immediately after one “gang member” pleaded with the other one not to kill Macey, they left.
“When they left I didn’t hear back Macey voice so I sleep back because I didn’t expect they would have killed him,” she said.
It was after 06:30 hrs yesterday, when persons went to the dwelling Macey occupied and raised an alarm that the woman said she realized that he was killed.
While she reported what she heard to the police, she could not reveal the killers’ identity.
“The place was dark so I couldn’t see anyone’s face,” she stressed.
Macey, who was 51, did odd jobs in the area.
This newspaper was told that the now dead man was charged on numerous occasions for possession of narcotics.
