DEAR EDITOR,
The matter of bail bothers me.
Why does the Chief Justice have to be involved in the matter of granting bail? Is there some feeling that the Magistrates have no real authority to grant bail or to set the extent of bail?
Something’s amiss here. Surely there are instructions and guidance to the Magistrates on the circumstances and conditions under which bail can be granted, denied or quantified. Surely.
So why is the invaluable time of the Chief Justice being expropriated to deal with the mundane matter of bail?
Come on Mr President, get your legal experts to work now to put a stop to this inane practice of wasting the Chief Justice’s time on the routine matter of bail. Carl Veecock
