Kurt Clarke of Howes Street, Charlestown was remanded to prison by City Magistrate Ann McLennan for the University of Guyana (UG) Road, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown robbery/murder of Mahaica rice farmer, Hardat Kissoon.
He is the second person to be charged with killing Kissoon.
The accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge which states that on June 1, 2015 at UG Public Road, Clarke murdered 42-year-old Kissoon of Cane Grove, Mahaica, during a robbery.
The matter was transferred to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for August 6.
Kissoon, a father of three, was shot dead on June 1 at University of Guyana Road, Turkeyen, by a bandit who was posing as a minibus passenger. The 42-year-old from Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, had joined the bus after leaving a city bank with $500,000.
According to reports, the bandit had asked the driver to stop so he could get off. He held Kissoon at gunpoint and demanded his bag. He then shot the farmer in the chest before exiting the bus and escaping on a motorcycle with another accomplice.
