Over the last weekend, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) conducted a series of training programmes in a number of registration districts to train field staff in the proper and correct conduct of the Claims and Objections exercise.
According to GECOM, its field staff from the Registration Offices in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10, participated in this two-day training exercise.
“The main objective of this training initiative was to equip participants with the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes to conduct the Claims and Objectives exercise. Participants were also able to acquaint themselves with all the relevant forms and records required, for processing various transactions, as well as how to complete neatly and accurately, the relevant forms and records.”
GECOM is the body tasked with overseeing elections in Guyana and issuance of National Identification cards.
Photography and fingerprinting were also part of the training exercise to ensure that participants were trained to correctly capture best quality photographs, as well as to take legible fingerprints of individuals and conducting transactions during the Claims and Objections exercise.
“GECOM will continue a rigorous training schedule over the coming weeks, as it aims to properly prepare a well-trained and professional cadre of staff to competently conduct the Claims and Objections exercise.”
