Dear Editor,
Please allow me to share my view on the recent statement made by the former Minister of the then Ministry of Affairs Clement Rohee.
Firstly, Mr. Rohee should not talk about crime fighting and solutions because he had none to tackle the high crime wave that occurred under his watch.
Rohee should be ashamed to ask the now Minister of Public Security to implement a comprehensive security plan as the PPP\C did when it was in office. The PPP\C had no plan to curb and solve criminal activities.
If the PPP\C had a plan to solve and curb criminal activities then it would have launched an investigation into the death of former Minister of Agriculture Sash Sawh, into the spending of taxpayers’ dollars without approval, the selling out of Guyana forest to the Chinese, the rampant killings of businessmen and citizens of Berbice and Guyana at large, the murders of miners, the theft of monies from the post offices and public offices, etc.
Rohee should be the last person to talk about crime solving when his fellow former Ministers Anil Nandlall and Bheri Ramsaran had threatened the lives of people, the working class, and no charge was ever laid by the Police.
The PPP\C had the police and DPP under its control. Whatever Rohee and PPP\C said the police and DPP had to do or face dismissal or transfer. Former Commander Paul Slowe can attest to the discrimination he met when he acted professionally in Berbice with the West Berbice businessman.
Well after a few months we all got to know that the CPG was another arm of the PPP\C. They were given resources more than the police. Policemen and women had to use old vehicles that could hardly move and the CPG’s were given almost brand new vehicles and motorbikes to patrol. But they failed.
The CPG members used those vehicles for personal use most of the time and also to campaign for the PPP\C. They fetched people to political meetings.
Rohee then implemented a plan to fight crime. It was the Crime Stoppers, whereby people can use their BBM and the Internet to report a criminal activity without their Identity being revealed. Millions were spend on this and it has failed. . He then built a Crime Lab on which millions of dollars was spent. It failed. He then tried to tackle animals on the road and invest millions of taxpayers’ dollars in buying trucks and that has failed too.
So if I am to go on, the only word that will describe Rohee is “FAILURE”. He and his government made the entire Guyana Force Corrupted and professionalism squander. Rohee cannot event implement a strategy to catch goats much less criminals. He failed and has no right to advise anyone except the cabals in his party.
I want to applaud this APNU+AFC government for the crime fighting plans and programmes.
