DEAR EDITOR,
According to the news reports, the GUYASPORA is still celebrating the administrative/political change in Guyana. Last weekend there was a big parade in Brooklyn, New York to mark and celebrate the change. And the words for a song came to my mind as I watched the revelry. I call it, ‘A Song for Freddie.’
There was a time when I read all the on-line Guyana news dailies. Then it trickled down to mainly the Kaieteur News. After a good Kaieteur News read, I usually feel so filled that the enthusiasm wanes for the other outlets.
Freddie Kissoon’s column boldly disclosed so many of the ills, gains, and wrongs in Guyanese political life, and I became addicted to it. Then I began to see other columns gradually following Freddie’s lead. We know how expensive the price for boldness is. Things got to the point where disclosures in your organ began appearing in bold red and white. And I suspect the GUYASPORA benefited greatly from that increase in boldness, which might be indirectly celebrated.
So with the Hal David/Bacharach melody, I sing this song for you: ‘Anyone who had a heart’, a memory, will know that it is you, Freddie…
Many thanks. Wayne Jones Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
