Essequibo’s top performers have attributed their successes to studying for lengthy hours and the continued
support of their family members.
Duvina Seurattan, 12, who was the Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) best performer gaining 522 marks at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment Examination, and a place at Queen’s College, showered praises to God for her success.
She noted that hours of studying had become priority, especially leading up to her examinations.
Seurattan said that after she was dismissed from School each day, she would venture to her Cullen, Essequibo home, to become engrossed in her studies/revision for lengthy hours.
The intended medical doctor remarked that she was shocked when she learnt that she was named the top performer for Region Two.
Additional plaudits are directed to her cousin, Naomi Sampson, who attends Queen’s College. Seurattan who comes from a family of academics—her mother is an educator—- would like to advise her peers to incorporate prayers and studies as they prepare for upcoming examinations. She is uncertain whether she would attend Queen’s College come September.
Swasti Saytoo, a 12-year-old, who attends the Taymouth Manor Primary School at Affiance and gained 521 marks at the recent NGSA, which earned her a place at Queen’s College, says she was also excited and happy about her win.
Saytoo, who wants to become an Astronomer, credits her success to extra lessons and lengthy hours of studying. The second place Essequibo performer recently lost her dad.
Other top performers include Christine Richardson, who placed third; Aditya Sukhai fourth; Shaves Banwarie, fifth; Amalika Persaud and Sarah Singh, sixth; Manisha Kawalram, Reynard Ramroop and Shane Samaroo, eighth, all spoke of extra lessons and lengthy hours of studying were the two main areas that have contributed to their successes.
Regional Educational Officer, Mrs. Baramdai Seepersaud, said that she was pleased with the top performers’ successes, but there is always room for improvement.
