DEAR EDITOR,
It is with much concern and in the interest of fairness to all political parties contesting this elections that I wish to register my disappointment in two critical areas where GECOM may have failed or erred in their duties leading up to the 2015 General and Regional Elections, for a free, fair and creditable election in my village.
1 – Voter education on the electoral process on the day of election and penalties for polling day staff that violates code of conduct on polling day.
2 – The composition of polling day staff who are all close-knit family members in one (1) polling station, having assigned those who could have added some degree of mixture to the composition to other locations.
PO – A man
APO – His daughter-in-law
CLERK 1 – His nephew
CLERK 2 – His niece
POLLING/COUNTING AGENT – His nephew
I strongly believe in “what is good for one must be good enough for the other” and this can only be truly displayed through a manner where one party does not find itself in a compromising position, but where the integrity and creditability of the entire process can be upheld in the interest of fairness to all parties.
It is my sincere Prayer that good sense prevails in this beautiful country of ours, the land where we were born, and that we pledge support in Nation Building in our efforts as One People living in One Nation all working towards One common Destiny, i.e. the good of all Guyanese.
