Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded a mother of one to prison yesterday after she was charged for cocaine trafficking.
Patrina Dalrymple, 27, a US citizen, denied the allegation which stated that on April 20, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) Timehri, she had 937 grammes of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Kerry Bostwick related to the court that on the day in question ranks from the narcotics branch of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) conducted a search on the defendant’s luggage. He stated that the illicit drug was found stashed in plastic parcels at the bottom of the woman’s suitcase. She was then told of the offence, arrested and charged.
Dalrymple’s attorney, Adrian Thompson, during his bail application told the court that the police have no connection between his client the drug. He pointed out that his client had no knowledge of the drug being inside of her suitcase and they are still trying to establish who placed it there.
However, Bostwick objected to the woman being released on bail citing that no special reasons were advanced to the court.
The matter will be called again on May 7.
