More than 80 students converged at the Colgrain Swimming Pool, Camp and Middle Streets, yesterday morning when the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCY&S) in collaboration with the National Sports Commission launched the second edition of the Easter Vocation Swimming Programme.
Several Government officials were in attendance including Sports Minister, Frank Anthony, Permanent Secretary (MCY&S), Alfred King, Director of Youth and Sports, Neil Kumar, Admin Officer (MCY&S), Gervy Harry, Administrative Assistant of the facility, Desiree Cummings and President of the of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA), Ivan Persaud.
The programme will be conducted over a 2 weeks period between Mondays to Fridays and will facilitate children 6-11 years old.
However, there will be no activity on Good Friday and Easter Monday. The children will be placed in two categories and would be facilitated by 4 competent coaches, Cuban Isabel Couza Fals, Marcia Rodrigues, Marisa Wray, Oluko Venture and Kwesi Melville. There will be two sessions daily, the first between 09:30hrs-10:30hrs, while the second session gets underway immediately afterwards up to 11:30hrs.
