A gold miner made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer to a robbery charge.
Kamal Khan of 171 Triumph, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on March 1, at Laing Avenue, he robbed Parmanand Rabendranauth of $7,000 cash along with a cell phone valued $4000. It was also alleged that during or after the incident he used personal violence.
Police prosecutor Bharrat Mangru, in relating the facts of the matter, told the court that the victim and the defendant are known to each other. He said that on the day in question the defendant along with three other persons robbed the victim.
The prosecution did not object to the defendant being granted his pre-trial liberty.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry subsequently granted the man bail to the tune of $100,000.
He will make his next court appearance on March 24.
