Granger promises “24/7” power supply for Region One

Residents of Region One during a recent meeting with Brigadier David Granger.

Granger, noting that “energy is the midwife of enterprise and economic development”, pointed out that that without cheap, renewable energy the residents of the Region would not be able to become efficient farmers, agro-processors, manufacturers, traders and exporters.
He said that for a region that is four times the size of Trinidad and Tobago, it is unimaginable that residents of Mabaruma, its administrative centre, should receive only five hours of electricity daily. Granger promised that an APNU-AFC government would work towards providing the region with electricity “24/7”.
An APNU-AFC government, he said, will invest in wind, solar and hydro-electric power, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

the entire region was holding back commerce and development. He promised increased investment in infrastructure, particularly roads and bridges, energy, education, and agro-processing. Every region, he said, must have a regional agricultural institute and a regional technical institute to prepare young adults to embark on satisfying careers that would make them financially independent while developing the economy of the region.
Granger was accompanied by APNU’s Dr. George Norton, Winston Felix, Rennita Williams and former parliamentarian, Richard Allen.
