Spit Fire of the Shariff Racing stable and ridden by Rodrigues produced a blistering finish to tear past its opponents and take the feature D1 and lower even when the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and racing stable held their successful Pre-Mashramani Sprint Classic One Day Horserace meet yesterday at the Rising Sun Turf Club.
Despite a wet day and held in front of a sizable crowd, the racehorse in only its third race on Guyana soil, chalked up its second victory in the 1100M sprint, which incidentally was the distance for all the races.
Spit fire looked a class act as it moved up around the far turn and down the homestretch as it raced away to win easily in the end to take the $1M and the Jumbo Jet Truck and Auto Sales trophy.
Other winners on the day were Release the Beast of the Jumbo Jet stable in the E3and Lower event. It’s My Choice also of The Jumbo Jet Stable in the Three year old West Indies Bred event as it won a close race from Storm Bird and Midnight Blue. Sent From Above took top honours in the G1 and lower event with Slim Shady winning the Three year old Guyana Bred event. Mary Ann of the Lenny Singh Stable won the I3 and lower event.
Affinity was in winner’s row in the J3 and lower race.
The top jockey on show was Paul Delph, with the Jumbo Jet and Lenny Singh Stable the top stables on show.
