I am willing to provide my service for such an audit
Dear Editor,
Two years ago I wrote a letter to Kaieteur News and Stabroek News begging our parliamentarian not to approve any funds for Guysuco unless there was a radical shakeup of the Board of Directors, and for Guysuco to present a plan of action on the way forward.
Not being a person of any influence, the brilliant parliamentarians went ahead and approved billions of dollars for this company. The Government continues to support this failing industry and have put in a Board of Directors and a Chief Executive Officer who are incapable of leading this corporation.
Now GAWU has seen the writing on the wall for Guysuco and is now trying to appear independent from the government. Did Komal Chand vote for the bailout for Guysuco? Now we have seen the brilliance of the leadership of the company.
For short term results and to show that Guysuco met its reduced target for 2014, we are told that they reaped young canes. Not only is that decision stupid and costly, but will reduce the production of sugar for this year, unless they plan to reap young canes again.
It is therefore refreshing for Moses Nagamottoo, the AFC Vice Chairman and possibly Presidential Candidate to call for a forensic audit of Guysuco. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the United States and would be willing to provide my service for such an audit.
While we are at audits, my recommendation is that we should also conduct forensic audits in each government ministry and department. These audits may be necessary to bring closure to any suspicions, and for us to have a new beginning.
