Shemar Britton was crowned champion of the inaugural South View Tavern (SVT) Knockout Table Tennis Championship which was played on Tuesday night last at the entity’s location, Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt.
Britton played well throughout defeating his national counterpart Stefan Corlette 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 to claim the title. In the semifinals Britton overcame another national player, Nigel Bryan three games to one while his other victories came against Joel Allen (2-1) and Jody Blake (2-0). In the other semifinal Corlette thumped Dwayne Gibson 3-0.
Britton said he is delighted at his achievement. “The win was a test of my mental strength more than my ability to play”, he added. Manager of SVT, Dillon Griffith said he was pleased to have some of Guyana’s top players on show adding that competition will be played on a regular basis. He also pledged assistance for the players.
Britton received $20,000 and a quantity non-alcoholic drink compliments of August Beverage Enterprise.
