A 23–year–old miner who allegedly killed another man at Aracru Village, North West District, (NWD) on Old Year’s Night has been remanded to prison.
Yesterday, Tyrell James stood before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with murder. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offence.
According to the allegation, on December 31, 2014, at Aracru Village, NWD, James murdered 52-year-old Augustine Samuels called ‘Jack.’ The accused was unrepresented before the court. Prosecutor Michael Grant did not present the details of the case but reports indicated that a drinking brawl led to the murder.
Yesterday’s hearing was brief, and the accused was remanded to prison until February 16, when the matter will continue at the Mabaruma Magistrates’ Court.
