Berbice robbers nabbed in Georgetown

Three well known characters wanted in Berbice for a number of misdemeanors have been nabbed in Georgetown and

taken back to the Ancient County.
Delroy Joseph, called Barney, 25, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, who also gave his address as Norton Street, Georgetown; Eon Weeks, called ‘Short Man’, 34, a taxi driver of Stanleytown and Angoy’s Avenue; Nikheal Henry, who also gave his name as “Malcolm Henry”, 27, of Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue.
The men appeared on Friday before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on four charges each.
They are accused of breaking into the dwelling house of Raylene White on Thursday March 15, at Cummings Village, New Amsterdam, and stealing one 42-inch LG Television set, one Acer Tablet and one gold brooch.
The woman, a school teacher, left her home intact around 08:00 hrs and went to work. Upon her return home she noticed her house ransacked. Further checks revealed some of her louver panes and a wooden bar removed and the items missing.
They are also accused of breaking and entering the unfinished dwelling house of Sherwin Ross and stealing three sets of toilet fittings, one toilet set, three boxes of electrical breakers, a quantity of electrical fittings, four door locks, a quantity of paint and putty between September 22 and September 23, at Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice.
Ross is constructing his house at the Glasgow Housing scheme and bought the items to complete the building. He secured the items in the house and left, only to discover the next day that the items were missing.
Then on November 1, last, at Lot 38 Stanleytown, the men broke an entered the dwelling house of Tamara Davis and Jennifer Thom and stole two television sets, one lap top computer and one flash drive.
On the day in question the women left their home around 21:30 hrs and went out. Upon their return around 02:50 hrs they noticed their house broken into and the items missing.
The men are also charged with breaking into the canteen of Veronica De Freitas and stealing a number of items between

November 11 and November 12, at Vryman’s Erven Secondary School.
Among the items stolen were gas stove, gas bottle, biscuits, cakes, chocolates, drinks and juices. All the matters were reported and the accused were reported as suspects. However the men were not found.
The police in Berbice contacted their colleagues in the other Division to be on the lookout for the men who were nabbed during a police sting operation in Georgetown. It was reported that some strange men were frequenting a drug yard in North Road.
The police swooped down on the premises on Tuesday where the men were nabbed. They initially gave the police different names and addresses.
However when they were fingerprinted and passed through the police system Joseph’s prints matched those taken from the scene of one of the robberies.
The men were questioned further and revealed their true identities.
In court, the men were initially refused bail, but were subsequently granted bail. Joseph was granted bail in the sum of $300,000. Henry and Weeks were granted bail in the sum of $255,000 each. They were unable to post the bail and were remanded to jail until January 2.
The police are investigating over a dozen other matters and more charges are likely.
