Long wait for DNA results taking toll on missing teacher’s mom

whether her child is dead or alive, due to further delays in uplifting DNA samples sent to Trinidad over three months ago.
Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud disclosed this week that police are awaiting funds from the Home Affairs Ministry to enable a rank to travel to Trinidad to pick up the DNA results, taken from skeletal remains of a female found at Pattensen.
At the same time, the rank will hand over DNA samples from human remains believed to be that of missing businessman, Mohamed F. Khan, for DNA analysis.
“I don’t want to wait until the New Year; I don’t even want to wait until Christmas,” Mrs. Green told Kaieteur News yesterday.
“This is talking a toll on me. All I want is to know whether it is my child or not, so I can give her a decent burial.”
Mrs. Green also expressed disappointment that police officials had rejected an offer from social activist Mark Benschop’s foundation to pay all expenses for the DNA tests.
“Why didn’t they take up the offer? Now they are saying that the family can go and pick up the results if they have the money (to travel). Where will I get the money from?”
It was more than three months ago that samples for DNA testing were taken from the skeletal remains of a female found in a bushy lot at Pattensen, Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara. A canvas belt was tied to the victim’s right arm and Goodman’s mother, Carol Green, subsequently identified the belt as her daughter’s.
In early October, police officials had assured that they would have uplifted the DNA results from Trinidad. Goodman’s mother had said that she is still seeking closure even though taxi driver Royston Waldron, the prime suspect in her daughter’s disappearance, is now dead.
Waldron, an ex-policeman, was shot dead two Fridays ago during a confrontation with police in Kitty.
He is also a suspect in the disappearance of policewoman Patriena Nicholson, who disappeared in August, 2013.
