DEAR EDITOR,
Many moons ago, a popular column in the Daily Argosy newspaper was titled “Things that bother me” written by one of our true greats —writer, Head Teacher and political activist, Robert Burchell Oclave Hart.
For this week his pen may very well have noted as follows:-
1. Why is the President attempting to make the issue of his Attorney General’s unacceptable behaviour acceptable? Anywhere else the AG would have been sent packing.
2. When will the truth about the Marriott deal be told? And if, as we now hear about wanton spending of public funds, this a private or personal matter, then say so.
3. We hear that the Umana Yana incident was no accident, but related to the needs of the said Marriott, if this is not the case then fix a timeframe for the rebuilding of this national treasure
4. So Hon. Minister Whittaker tells a gathering of RDCs etc., “Let us account for the People’s money” but he has the G/T Town Clerk waive $27 million without the M&CC’s approval or knowledge, not to mention other anomalies.
5. Hats off to the Roman Catholic Bishop for speaking out against the outrage of the prorogation. But where are our other religious leaders? Their silence gives consent. Is this so with some of my friends? Those who daily from their pulpits use the Bible to guide their followers, let them be reminded of what is contained in the first of the four Gospels of St. Matthew 18, verses 15 to 17. Or are those who mount the pulpits or speak in their Masjids and Temples blind or unconcerned about the obvious moral turpitude and spiritual weakness taking place in Guyana?
6. It appears M. F. Khan was murdered. He gave a statement after an earlier attempt on his life. The statement pointed to certain folks who seem to be ‘sacred cows’.
These are things that bother me. Hamilton Green
