Teachers United and No51 Football Club are the two teams that will be contest the final of the Inaugural Corentyne Cup 2014 Football Competition slated for tomorrow at the Scottsburg Community Centre Ground beginning at 15:00 hrs.
The two teams scored contrasting wins in their respected semi-final games of the competition which has been organized by the Corriverton Links Football Club in association with the Scottsburg Community Centre when the competition continued recently with one match.
In the first game Teachers United took Manchester to school inflicting a 3-1 whipping in the process.
Marking their names present on the score card for Teachers was Jarell Rajgopaul in the 5th, Colin Bowrey 40th and Philip John in the 43rd minutes. Manchester got their lone goal off the boot of Keron Grenville in the 25th minute.
In the second semifinal, No 51 got the better of host Corriverton Links 4-2 on penalty kicks after the game ended 1-1 after full and extra time. Corriverton Links went ahead in the 7th Minute through a Jeffery Rasco. However No 51 were able to draw level in the 53 minute when Tony Raphael found the back of the net. This is No 51 second successive victory from the penalty spot having defeated Courtland in similar manner in their last preliminary match.
The teams participating in the competition are Corriverton Links, NO 51 Football Club, Courtland Football Club, Manchester/Liverpool Football Club and guest team Teachers United.
Incentives will be presented to the top three teams, highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper, while medals will also be presented to the players of the top three teams. (Samuel Whyte)
