The MV MALALI is back in service after dry docking and extensive rehabilitation at the
MV Malali
E.C Vieira Investment Ltd Dry Docking facility.
According to the Maritime Administration Department, MARAD, the vessel which usually plies the Parika-Wakenaam-Supenaam-Parika route, entered the dock yard on September 1, last. The cost of rehabilitation was $118.9 million.
Dr. Clinton Hazel was assigned as the Project Engineer.
In a statement to the press yesterday, MARAD explained that some of the rehabilitative works, undertaken on the vessel included the construction of a new canteen on the Passengers’ Deck, and an opening at the Port Bow was converted into a Sailor’s Cabin.
In addition, seven cabins were reconstructed for the crew; there were, hull works, the installation of Anodes and replacing of the water tank.
Meanwhile, the Central Workshop of the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) undertook some of the additional repairs. The rehabilitation of the MV Malali was completed on October 9, 2014.
The vessel is back on service.
