Republic Bank Nets trapped defending Phillip George Legacy Basketball Champions,

Nets’ guard, Antwaun Austin releases a fade-away jumper in traffic Thursday night on Burnham Basketball Court in the Phillip George Legacy Tournament III.
Ravens, entangling them for defeat Thursday night in the 2014 edition of the tournament that continued on the Burnham Basketball Court.
Nets edged Ravens 66-65 with forward, Drumson McCulley scoring 17 points and veteran guard, Pelham Doris adding 14 points. Guard Antwaun Austin exploded for 11 points in the game with forward Mortimer William also scoring 11 points.
For Ravens that had not lost a game this year, forward, Ryan Gullen had 17 points while Akeem Kanhai chipped in with 16 points and guard, Ryan Stephney 11 points. Ravens have been touted as the best unit in the country for quite some time.
Stephney nailed a three-point jumper to set their offence moving as Ravens assumed a 12-4 lead midway through the first quarter; but Nets’ McCulley and Doris ran their well-executed baseline pick-and-roll to end a 5-0 run that chopped the lead.
The opening quarter ended 17-15 in favour of Ravens, but Hodayah Stewart landed a huge three-point jumper to give Nets their first lead in the game. Ravens went on a 10-2 offensive run in the second quarter to assume a 27-20 lead five minutes before halftime.
Every time Nets went big with McCulley, Williams, Doris, Austin, Fabian Johnson on the Court, it posed defensive problems for Ravens. The ‘big-man’ game for Nets gave them a life before the halftime, allowing them to draw level at 35 points at the break.
Austin exploded in the third quarter with some heroics in the paint, which extended their run to a 22-9 sojourn for a 42-36 score-line. Williams drilled one from downtown to help maintain Nets’ advantage but Ravens went on a 9-2 run to spark a fierce offensive exchange; the third period in the contest ended 54-51 in favour of Nets.
Three minutes into the last period, the scores where levelled at 55 with Ravens regaining the lead after Kanhai finished a put-back; the two teams exchanged points until Nets went back to its ‘big four’ to close out the game with McCulley dominating the paint.
The tournament will continue tonight with four more games scheduled for Burnham’s Basketball Court. Ravens have one both editions of the tournament thus far in 2012 and 2013. Coach, Darcel Harris was badly missed in their game Thursday night.
