A man has been jailed for 36 months after police ranks, responding to a burglary report, caught him red-handed ransacking a woman’s home in Tucville on Tuesday last.
Forty six-year-old Carlyle Nurse was sentenced by Magistrate Ann McLennan before whom he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, on a break and enter and larceny charge.
According to the Police, about 09:45 hours on Tuesday, last, Latoya Rashard left her Lot 15 Eden Street, Tucville, Georgetown residence to take her daughter to a day care.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones reported that Nurse used the opportunity to raid the woman’s home. He said that the neighbours saw the intruder sneaking into the house and reported the matter to the police.
According to the Prosecution, the ranks found Nurse at the scene with items which totaled $98,500 in value.
Nurse had taken the woman’s 10-pound gas cylinder, a hand saw, hammer, Black and Decker iron, lamp, hand purses, cosmetics, a black and white dress, Motorola cellular phone, Lasko fan, pressing comb, blow dryer and $3000 cash.
He had reportedly told the ranks “I try a ting and thief dem tings.” Jones said. Rashard was called to the scene where she identified the items as her belongings. The Prosecution reported that further investigations led to Nurse being charged.
Following his guilty plea, the accused asked the Court to be lenient with him since it was his first offence.
Corporal Jones, in response, asked the Court to heed the prevalence of these crimes when sentencing Nurse. The Prosecutor said although that this was his first time, the sentence could act as a deterrent for those who would contemplate burglary.
Nurse was then sentenced.
