Rajindra Jagessar, 23, a fisherman of Lot 3 Rampoor, Corriverton, Corentyne, was on Monday remanded to jail by Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh when he appeared before him at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on a charge of Attempted Murder.
The man is accused of attempting to kill Brently Small, 25, a cane cutter of Dukestown, Corentyne on October 24, following an altercation on Corriverton Public Road.
On the day in question Brently Small was riding his bicycle on the public road when he encountered some men, including Jagessar and some of his relatives. They blocked his path causing an altercation.
Small, went home and returned with a cutlass and the altercation escalated. Jagessar challenged Small and was broadsided. Jagessar in turn took out a razor which he had concealed and stabbed Small in the region of his heart.
The injured man collapsed and was picked up and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital before being transported to the New Amsterdam Hospital for emergency operation.
The accused fled the scene was subsequently arrested. He was later charged.
His case has been transferred to the Springlands Magistrate’s court for November 7.
